Sus comienzos en la lucha de brazos: Toda mi vida he estado practicando lucha de brazos. Pasé cinco años practicando de modo informal en la mesas del instituto. A los 16 años empecé en serio, tirando con mi padre en una mesa oficial. Obtuve mi primer título mundial a los 18 años.
El oponente más duro: Mis oponente más duros son los tipos que realmente tienen confianza en ganar, sin excepciones, no importa la posición o circunstancia. Perder es fácil si son rápidos, pero sé que tendré una segunda oportunidad para intentar más adelante algo diferente. Los que hacen daño son los que en principio tardan un rato. Son los más difíciles, porque sé que hay una buena posibilidad, a causa de la fatiga, de ser vencido por alguien que no debería vencerme en un pulso posterior.
El combate más duro: Mis combates más duros son aquellos en los que me presiono a mí mismo para ganar. Torneos con apuestas altas como el Over the Top y algunos de los combates de mayor incentivación económica son siempre los más duros psicológica y mentalmente antes del torneo. Ganar o perder. Los combates son más agradables para mí cuando no tengo que pensar en ellos meses antes. Actualmente no me estoy entrenando para ganar a ningún luchador específico. Actualmente hay tantos luchadores con diferentes fuerzas y debilidades por todo el mundo que sería muy difícil tener la llave para vencer en un área… o persona. Se requeriría mucha dureza y un poco de suerte para ganar en una completa categoría de pesos pesados donde puede aparecer cualquiera. Puede ser muy difícil eliminar a muchos sin causarme un considerable desgaste en el brazo para futuros combates.
Consejo de entrenamiento: Si quieres ser un buen boxeador, boxea. Si quieres ser un buen tenista, juega al tenis. Si quieres ser un buen levantador de peso, levanta peso. Pero si quieres ser un buen luchador de brazos tienes que implicarte en el deporte y competir. No tengas miedo a perder. Aprende y hazte más fuerte frente a competidores más avanzados que tú. Tira fuerte y se agresivo pero ten en cuenta que un poco puede significar mucho. Ten el cuerpo en forma para que se cure fácilmente cualquier lesión. Desarrollar la fuerza en la lucha de brazos lleva su tiempo… persevera y date tiempo, no va a ocurrir de la noche a la mañana.

“Started armwrestling: I have been armwrestling what seems to be my whole life. About 5 years of non serious stuff across class room tables in grade school. Then at about 16 I became a more serious puller. Pulling with my father on a regulation table. I won my first World Title at age 18.
Toughest opponent: My toughest opponents are against the guys that truly have the confidence to win, and do not except defeat no matter the position or circumstance. Losing is easy if its quick, and I know I will have a second chance to try something different later in the day. The ones that hurt are the ones that last awhile early on. They are the tough ones, because I know there is a good chance, because of fatigue, that I may get beat by someone that shouldn’t beat me in a later round.
Toughest match: My toughest matches would be the ones that I put pressure on myself to win. High stake tournaments like the Over the Top tournament and some of the bigger money matches are always tougher physically and mentally leading up to the tournament. Win or lose. Matches are enjoyable for me when I haven’t been thinking about them months in advance. I don’t have any one armwrestler that I am currently training to beat. Currently there are so many good armwrestlers with different strengths and weaknesses around the world that it would be very difficult to key on one area… or person.
It would require a lot of thought and a little luck to win a full heavyweight class if everyone were to show up. Many would be very difficult to eliminate without causing considerable wear and tear on the arm for later matches.
Best training advice: If you want to be a good boxer then box. If you want to be a good tennis player then play tennis. If you want to be a good weight lifter then lift weights. But if you want to be a good armwrestler get involved in the sport and armwrestle. Don’t be afraid to lose. Learn and get stronger from competitors that may be more advanced than you. Pull hard and be aggressive but keep in mind there is such a thing as too much. Give your body time to heal. Armwrestling strength takes time to develop….. hang in there and give yourself plenty of time, it won’t happen overnight”

PAVO- Luther Cleve Dean, 57 años, de Pavo, falleció el martes 10 de mayo de 2011, en el Centro Médico Henry en Stockbridge, Georgia.
El sábado 14, en el entierro, miembros de la Asociación de Lucha de Brazos del Sudeste portarán el féretro.
Nació el 15 de diciembre de 1953 en Moultrie, hijo de Luther B. Dean y de Blanche Parramore Dean. Fue copropietario t operador de Homes of Pavo y fue miembro de la Iglesia Baptista. Fue Campeón del Mundo de Lucha de Brazos durante 10 años consecutivos, y compitió dos veces en la Competición del Hombre Más Fuerte del Mundo.
Deja un hijo, Shannon Dean y su esposa Suzanne, de Nashville, Tennessee; dos hijas, Terri Olliff y su marido Shane de Pavo y Leann Dabdoub y su marido David de Moultrie; un hermano, Wayne Dean y su esposa Glenda de Pavo; una hermana, Faye Darlene Clark y su marido Keith de Moultrie; y 14 nietos.
La familia recibirá a los amigos de 6 a 8 de la tarde del viernes 13 de mayo en el tanatorio.
En su memoria se pueden hacer donativos a la Asociación Americana de diabetes, 1701 North Beauregard St., Alexandria, Va., 22311.

Cleve was a great friend. A kinder, gentler soul you will never find. I will miss him.”

PAVO — Luther Cleve Dean, 57, of Pavo, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Henry Medical Center in Stockbridge, Ga.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Baptist Cemetery. Members of the Southeast Arm Wrestling Association will be casketbearers.
Born Dec. 15, 1953, in Moultrie, he was the son of the late Luther B. Dean and Blanche Parramore Dean. He was co-owner and operator of Homes of Pavo and was a member of Autreyville Baptist Church. He was the World Champion Arm Wrestler for ten consecutive years, and competed twice in the World’s Strongest Man Competition.
Survivors include one son, Shannon Dean and wife Suzanne of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters, Terri Olliff and husband Shane of Pavo and Leann Dabdoub and husband David of Moultrie; one brother, Wayne Dean and wife Glenda of Pavo; one sister, Faye Darlene Clark and husband Keith of Moultrie; and 14 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 13, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
The family may be contacted at the home of his niece, Melinda Tinsley, at 9974 Salem Church Road in Pavo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard St., Alexandria, Va., 22311.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Cobb Funeral Chapel.

KEVIN BONGARD (El puma estaba cazando)
Lo que más me ha llamado la atención de esta reseña en ARMWRESTLING 24 H, ha sido la enigmática cita con la que ha respondido sobre sus logros:
“Went lion hunting this morning and caught a really nice male cat! (Cougar)”
“Cougar” es una expresión del argot inglés para definir a las mujeres que buscan una pareja sensiblemente más joven. En el uso normal lingüístico significa “puma” (león de montaña o gato de montaña). Se establece un paralelismo con el mundo animal, es decir, con la caza de hombres más jóvenes (carne fresca) por parte de estas mujeres (depredadoras).
